I’m obsessed with audio books. My 9 to 5, and the drive to and from there, are often long and mundane, so I pass the time by listening to audio books. A good friend of mine says that isn’t reading but whatevs. Audio books allow me to visualize things in a way print sometimes doesn’t. Especially when the book is read by author. I used to subscribe to Audible but when I discovered that I could check out books through Los Angeles Public Library for free, I ended that subscription with a quickness. I often have to wait several weeks for popular titles but it saves me $15 a month.
I’m currently listening to Creative Quest by Questlove. Now, I tried to read Mo’ Meta Blues but I found it to be a bit too wordy for my liking and never finished it. I have read different articles written by Questlove and I know him to be an amazing writer. I decided to try again. The introduction to Creative Quest caught me by surprise. Questlove, of the Legendary Roots Crew questions his own creativity. What? How? He writes:
“That’s how many days go. I wake up, I engage with creative work, I don’t create anything myself. Sometimes I think I’m restrained by information… unable to free myself from the hold of other peoples work.”
Hello? Is he in my head right now? Did he write this book for me? Maybe he did. Maybe he wrote it for all of us.
